Dr. Miguel Rodrigues is a Foreign Service Officer with the U.S. Department of State. Currently posted to the U.S. Embassy in Ottawa, his portfolio includes health, the Arctic, science and technology, and innovation. He served on the Policy Planning Staff under Secretaries Clinton and Kerry, focusing on the European Union, its member states, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, and the Holy See, as well as on global health. Other assignments include Lithuania, Mexico City, the Dominican Republic, the Estonia/Finland and Jamaica Desks, and the State Department’s Pandemic Influenza Action Group. While a Visiting Fellow at a Washington think tank, Dr. Rodrigues convened and moderated roundtables on the Eurozone, energy security, and European integration. A physician by training, he graduated from Dartmouth College with High Distinction in History, has Masters degrees in international affairs from Johns Hopkins SAIS and public health from Harvard, and received advanced training in economics at the State Department’s Foreign Service Institute. Prior to joining the State Department, Dr. Rodrigues worked on regulatory matters at the Food and Drug Administration and on organ transplant allocation at the Health Resources and Services Administration within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. He speaks Spanish, German, Italian, Portuguese, French, Lithuanian, and some Turkish.
