PhD student / Research Associate
Mohamed Elmi is a PhD student in Information Systems at University of Cape Town and a Research Associate with the Ted Rogers School of Management’s Diversity Institute at Ryerson University.
Mohamed’s doctoral research focuses on how Information Communication Technologies can further economic and social development in African countries. As part of his research, Mohamed looks at how ICTs is used within communities that lack a defined and legitimate state apparatus, in an attempt to identify what role these technologies can play in building a stable Somalia.
Mohamed is currently seconded to the Diversity Institute as a researcher tasked with collecting and analyzing data on representation in Canadian organizations. Through action-oriented, evidence-based approach, the Diversity Institute aims to advance knowledge of the complex barriers faced by underrepresented groups, leading practices to effect change, and producing concrete results.
Mohamed holds a Master of Arts in International Development from Saint Mary’s University where he was awarded a Faculty of Graduate Studies Fellowship and prior to that he earned an Honour’s Bachelor of Arts degree in in Political Science from the University of New Brunswick.
