Miles Berry

Principal lecturer for Computing Education
Miles Berry is principal lecturer for Computing Education at the University of Roehampton. He teaches initial teacher training courses as part of the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, as well as tutoring masters students. His principal research focus is on pedagogies for computing education. Other professional interests include knowledge management in education, use of open source software and principles in schools, independent learning and online communities in professional learning. He is a chartered fellow of the British Computer Society and serves on the management board of Computing at School, a non profit organization that supports excellence in Computing education in schools. A fellow of several ​professional societies, he is an Apple Distinguished Educator and a member of the Royal Academy of Engineering’s UK Forum for Computing Education.

Over the years he has contributed to a number of computing related projects including: CAS's computer science curriculum, the national curriculum computing programmes of study, the CAS / Naace guide to the computing curriculum for primary teachers, training of CAS Master Teachers, the BETT and ERA Award winning Rising Stars Switched on Computing, Barefoot Computing, Code Club Pro's training materials, QuickStart Computing and resources for the BBC and Microsoft. He lives in ​Surrey with his wife, Clare, who is a primary school teacher. They have one daughter, born December 2010
