Assistant Deputy Minister (Science and Technology) (ADM S&T) / Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
Marc Fortin is the Assistant Deputy Minister (Science and Technology) (ADM S&T) of the Department of National Defence (DND) and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC).

In his capacity as ADM (S&T) of DND, Dr. Fortin oversees the department’s S&T investment and provides leadership on national issues in defence and security science and technology. In his capacity as CEO of DRDC, he leads a national network of eight defence research centres with an annual budget of $350 million and a staff of 1,400 people. DRDC provides national leadership in defence and security science and provides scientific advice and products to the Canadian Armed Forces and DND.

Prior to joining DND and DRDC in 2011, Dr. Fortin led several research organizations at the national or regional levels, including as ADM (Research) at Agriculture and AgriFood Canada. During 2010-2013, he served as co-chair of the ADM S&T Integration Board, an interdepartmental committee of the science leads of the thirteen largest S&T-performing federal departments and agencies.

Before joining the public service, Dr. Fortin led research teams in molecular genetics and biotechnology, and was Research Fellow and William Dawson Scholar at McGill University.
He is a graduate of McGill University and Université Laval, and also conducted research at the University of Chicago and the University of California Davis.
